Serviced apartments and hotels for families in Singapore. If you’re planning a family holiday to somewhere as busy, crowded and hot as Singapore with kids, you need really excellent facilities for when you are seeking downtime back at your accommodation. Here are some of the more baby and kid friendly hotels and accommodations in Singapore, the Lion City.
For a bit more flexibility and space, Treetops is a favourite for families. These serviced apartments are reasonably spacious (a family of four could comfortably reside in a 2 bedroom apartment for a week) and the facilities for kids are excellent.
There is a fantastic large swimming pool complex surrounded by lush tropical greenery so you will get all the experience of living in a resort but still have the convenience of residing in an apartment. Lots of families hang out by the pool so the kids will meet many playmates and there is a café serving local Singaporean hawker foods so you never need leave. There is also a playground and on-roof tennis court.
If you do decide to venture out, Treetops is a walkable distance to Orchard Road where you can easily access the supermarket or browse through the multiple shopping centres.
A minimum number of nights stay is required to book here.
Sentosa for families is like one giant playground. If you want to be just minutes’ drive to Universal Studios Singapore, two aquariums and two waterparks, this is the resort to choose.
The facilities catering to kids here are extremely impressive. Not only is the resort located right on the beach at Sentosa, there is a huge water play area of pools, undercover waterslide and splash zone that the children will adore. (The water uses minimal chlorine reducing the number of chemicals the children are swimming in.)
The kids club is also fantastic and decked out with a multi storey indoor treehouse slide that goes straight into a ball pit as well as plenty of organised activities for big and little kids.
Apart from the free kids club, everything in the resort is designed to accommodation children. In the rooms there are step stools provided in the bathrooms and in the buffet restaurant, Silver Shell Café, there is a dedicated children’s area with plastic tableware and kid friendly foods. (Yes, that is a chocolate fountain you can see at the dessert bar.)
For infants, there is now a new Baby Zone area where parents can access free baby food, bottle sterilisers, nappies and wipes so you don’t have to bring all that with you.
Because of the tropical feel of being on Sentosa and its proximity to all the activities there, staying here has the relaxing vibe of being in a beach resort with the convenience of being easily accessible to multiple entertainment outside it. But because it is on Sentosa, if you plan to spend most of your time on the main island proper and you want a Singapore city family holiday experience, this might not be the right option for you.
The rooftop infinity pool at Marina Bay Sands is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Singapore so it makes sense to avoid the commute and just stay there as a guest. As well as avoiding the pool viewing fee the hotel charges to non-guest residences, the kids and you will have a memorable place to hang out in between the sightseeing.
As well as being centrally located a short taxi or MRT ride into the city, the entire Marina Bay Sands complex is filled with activities to do for kids (indoor synthetic ice skating rink, gondola rides, ArtScience Museum) as well as many restaurants, a hawker centre and a mini supermarket. In the evenings there is also the free Wonder Full light and water show out on the bay.
If you can’t get a suite at Treetops, Orchard Scotts Residences is a great serviced apartment alternative. The property is much newer so the amenities and fittings are slicker. For instance, the huge selling point for kids are the four modern swimming pools set over a large space which really make for an excellent place for the children to play.
Inside the apartment can be a little crowded (so not ideal for toddlers who need space) but it is within walking distance of Orchard Road, Newton Hawker Centre and the MRT station so it is very central.
Formerly known as the Traders Hotel, Hotel Jen is perfectly situated right next to Tanglin Mall, the shopping centre of choice for many expatriates living in Singapore. Here you will find a pharmacy and well stocked supermarket full of foreign products which is perfect if you are traveling with kids who have allergies or very specific skincare or eating needs and have to use very particular products from home.
The hotel is undergoing a makeover but despite its age, the suites are a reasonable size for families and allow you access to the Club Lounge which is a quieter place for kids to have breakfast and pick up snacks throughout the day. There is wifi throughout the grounds. The hotel also has a couple of family friendly eating options including the famous local restaurant Ah Hoi’s Kitchen which overlooks the large pool and smaller toddler pool.
Unlike many hotels, Hotel Jen Singapore also offers a one price, unlimited pieces laundry service (you pay per bag, not per item) which is great for families.
