Interview with Cora Montgomery of family travel website Tropic of Candycorn about the family holidays kids like the best. Cora is 11 years old and has already been to over 10 countries including exotic destinations such as Guatemala, Honduras, Colombia, Panama and Spain and around much of the USA. She and her siblings Hero (9), Philippa (6) and Minerva (3) typically do on 6 week trip a year with their parents as well as additional smaller trips throughout the year. Exercise While Travelling: Cycling With Kids

Nancy Sathre-Vogel loves to ride a bike, so much so that in 2005 her family set off on their first cycling tour in the mountains near Boise, Idaho, USA with their sons Davy and Daryl (then 7 years old). The four day trip was such a success that in 2006 they spent a year cycling around the US and Mexico. Then in 2008 they hopped into the saddle in Alaska and rode 173,00 miles through 15 countries to reach the southern most tip of Argentina. The boys (then 10) hold the world record as the youngest people to cycle the Pan-American Highway. Nancy tells suitcases&strollers about the practicalities of riding bikes with kids.

The Permanent Travellers, Part 2

13-year-old Miro Siegel is truly a global citizen. He and his mother, Lainie of blog Raising Miro, have been traveling for over 3 years and don’t plan to stop any time soon. His checklist includes Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and Colombia. Miro doesn’t attend formal school but participates in “unschooling” and is even helping produce a learning retreat in Peru. Lainie Liberti of Raising Miro is a single mum who wanted her son, Miro, to learn about the world. So in 2008 she sold her Californian business and took the then 9-year-old on the road. They have been travelling ever since and covered 12 countries in South and Central America including Belize, Chile and Panama.
